Frequently asked questions & Cross Lane House policies

Is there on-site parking?

We have a car park with plenty of space. This is a short walk through the courtyard to the front of the house. Please be careful about pulling into or out of the car park, as the entrance is on a corner. We have never had an instance of car theft in our car park but please be aware you are solely responsible for your car and its contents whilst parked on our premises. Please also park with respect to other guests.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check-in is from 2pm and check-out is at 11am on the morning of your departure. Should you wish for an earlier arrival or later check out please contact us. We cannot guarantee this, but will always try our best to accommodate your request. We kindly ask all guests to check in before 10:30pm. If you think you may arrive later than this please let us know in advance.

Is there a hairdryer in the room?

All of our rooms have hairdryers provided.

Does the hotel have WiFi?

There is free wifi throughout the building. Please note that we are in the middle of Exmoor National Park - so super fast fibreoptic may not be available. Please use data responsibly so that all guests can benefit from this. We keep your data securely but are not responsible for your use of the internet, again please use responsibly! There is usually a member of staff who can help you with IT issues but in this event we are not responsible for any consequential damage to your equipment.

Is breakfast included?

Our rates include breakfast. This is usually served between 08:00 - 10:00. Please advise if you require an early breakfast upon check-in.

Are you dog friendly?

Some of our rooms are dog friendly – however there is a small charge.

Whilst we love dogs, some guests do not so we therefore ask you to keep your dog on a lead whilst in the house. Some guests choose to leave dogs in cars. In such circumstances you are solely responsible the welfare of your dog.

Dogs are allowed downstairs in the Bar and Lounge area but not in the dining room.

How accessable is Cross Lane House?

Cross Lane House welcomes everyone. We endeavour to treat all our guests and customers the same regardless of disability or impairment and according to their needs. We are constantly looking at ways to improve accessibility for our guests and are always happy to hear suggestions.

The house was built around 1545, and many of the original features are still in place today. The building can therefore provide some challenges with access. Unfortunately at present, we do not have any ground floor or disabled access rooms, however, within our long-term plans for the business, we do hope to change this making Cross Lane House more accessible to everyone. Please note that there is no lift within the building and all of our bedrooms are on the first floor.

There is a large car park with a short walk through the courtyard to the front of the house. To avoid the historic cobbles on the way, guests that require easier access would be more than welcome to use the side entrance, brining you into the house through the Dining Room. There is a disabled toilet on the ground floor.

We aim to cater our menus to suit as many dietary needs as possible, but if you have any questions or more complex dietary requirements, please do inform us in advance so we can best prepare ahead of your arrival.

Should you have any additional requirements that we can help with at all, please do let us know.

Cross Lane House has a no-smoking policy. We politely ask that should you need to smoke or vape, you do so outside within our beautiful surrounding grounds. Ashtrays will be provided.

We are a dog friendly hotel, so guide dogs would of course be very welcome!

Smoke detectors, alarms and emergency lighting are on all floors.

Do all rooms have en-suite bathrooms?

Yes all rooms have en-suite bathrooms. Some rooms also have bathtubs. Please check upon booking - or call us for more info.

Is housekeeping included?

Daily housekeeping is included within the room rate.

Can you provide cots / extra beds?

Yes, we have a travel-cot available and a couple of fold-up beds. Let us know in advance of your arrival - and we can have them set-up ready for you. For extra beds - we may have to charge you an additonal fee to cover extra breakfast & linen.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations made within 1 week of your arrival date, which we are unable to resell, are fully chargeable. We are a small business and unfortunately have to stick rigidly to this rule, without exception. We require a credit card to reserve your room and this would be charged in the event of cancellation. If the card given cannot be charged then you acknowledge that the outstanding amount becomes a debt. We therefore reserve the right to collect this money through any other appropriate means. Should you wish to change something about your booking please email or call us and we will do our best to fulfil your wishes. We will always try to resell any cancelled room to avoid any charge to you.

Can you cater to my allergies and intolerances?

Should you suffer from any food allergies or intolerances please make our staff know in advance. Our kitchen can accommodate almost all requirements and we will always do our best to ensure you have something delicious to eat. However, the more notice you give us the better. If you have a feather allergy please let us know when booking, so that we can ensure our bedding and pillows are suitable.

Is there good phone signal?

The mobile phone signal at Cross Lane House is quite weak, though, it is still possible to make a call on most networks, but not necessarily from everywhere in the building.

O2 and Vodaphone seem to have the best signal reach.

How long are gift vouchers valid for?

Our gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue and are non-refundable.

What payment types do you accept?

You are very welcome to explore our gardens and grounds - Please take special care when walking near the ancient cobbles – these are listed cobbles and are therefore quite uneven and can become slippery.

Do you offer a train station pick-up?

We try to accommodate this request wherever possible. The nearest staion is Taunton - approximatley 45 minutes away. Although this service is free - we may ask for a contribution towards Fuel.

Please note this is very tricky during food service on a Saturday and Sunday (12:00 – 14:00) or at the height of supper service (6pm to 9pm). We are also not responsible for making sure that you make your train (though we will do our best!).

Do you have toiletries in the room?

Yes, we have Shampoo, Conditioner and Bodywash. The lovely natural Bramley Products are available in your room in generous full size bottles. This is much nicer and more environmentally friendly then disposable small bottles. These products are available for your use during your stay, but please do not remove from your room or we may charge you for them. The full range is available to buy and take home with you at the bar, ask a member of the team.

I have a special request, can you help?

We want your stay with us to be special and memorable, if you have a special request we will always endevour to help.

Please do not rely on simply sending in an email or leaving message for any requests. We pick up pretty much everything but occasionally will miss something, so please make sure your request is acknowledged by us ahead of your arrival.
