Our Corporate Social Responsibility Statement

You may have guessed already by the unique yellow colour of the building, that Cross Lane House is owned by The National Trust and is one of the oldest properties standing on the Holnicote Estate. The National Trust as a charity play an integral part in preserving and maintaining many estates and natural habitats throughout the United Kingdom and we are delighted to be doing our part to keep this work going.

At Cross Lane House we are always looking for more ways to reduce our carbon footprint, care for and protect the environment and the beautiful surroundings that we are situated in, and to give back to the communities that we are apart of. To work like this is fundamental to how we operate as a business and in turn, we hope to show to others that you can succeed in a natural and environmentally correct way.

Here are some of the ways that we are working towards being a greener and more socially responsible business.

The Garden & Kitchen

  • Our choice of tea and coffee are supplied by a local bussiness Miles. Their factory is based just 5 minutes down the road from us.  Reducing food miles & packaging.

  • We have a small vegetable and fruit patch on site that we like to incorporate into our menus, but when the bushes aren’t bearing, we always aim to buy local.

  • We organically manage our kitchen gardens but are not organically certified.

  • We compost all garden waste

  • We recycle all cooking oil

  • We strongly support the English alcohol industry, championing local vineyards, distillers and brewers throughout our menu

  • We use loose leaf tea in our dining room and bar. Most tea bags are not compostable whereas loose leaf tea reduces the amount of packaging we’re using and can be directly thrown onto our compost heap! It’s a no brainer. We are still working with our supplier to provide biodegradable  tea bags for our rooms.

The Bedrooms

  • We are proud to use Bramley products in our Bathrooms. Produced in England, Bramley have a huge commitment to maintaining and preserving our beautiful and natural environments. Their bottles are recyclable and we top them up for guests to use whilst they are with us – so please don’t take them home!

  • In the bedrooms, you’ll find Nespresso machines. Our coffee pods are now made of recycled materials. We also recycle old pods to prevent them going to landfill.

  • We rag old linen to use for cleaning!

  • All light bulbs have been updated to LED or energy efficient bulbs, reducing our overall electricity consumption.

  • We use as many antique and up cycled furnishings where possible, to give each item a new lease of life

Our Community and Charities

  • We strive to become a hub of social activities, supporting local businesses and individuals, by hosting evenings and events that bring everyone together.

  • We have twinned the toilets in all three of our guest bedrooms. This helps fund projects in a community that is less fortunate. The funds will enable families to build a basic toilet, have access to clean water and learn about hygiene - a vital combination that saves lives.
